A Children’s Introduction to Astrology

Course Description:

In this introductory course, children will gain an understanding of the archetypal relevancy of the 12 signs of the zodiac and of the planets. Through the time-honored arts of storytelling, music, rhythm, rhyme, and various visual arts, children will be engaged in a deeply human way with the ancient wisdom of astrology.

This course is offered for two different grade levels: Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6. When registering, please select the appropriate grade level for your child.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, students will have a strong, personal foundation of the underpinnings of astrology. They will:

  • Know the 12 signs of the zodiac and their attributes;
  • Be introduced to the polarities/complements of each sign;
  • Know the 10 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto) as they pertain to astrology, and their attributes;
  • Be eligible for the intermediate course.

Materials Needed:

Course Expectations:

Each session will begin with 10 minutes of movement, poetry, and songs that reflect the material being presented. These activities help to engage the students’ whole bodies and minds and facilitate reception of the material.

Students will be creating their own book of astrology. This “portfolio” will be used as the end-of-course assessment.

Stories/myths/legends will be brought in the ancient form of Storytelling. The teacher will present the given topic orally in a lively, engaging way. With the students’ imagination thus stimulated, the teacher will then guide them in an illustration of the story.

On a subsequent day, the class together will recall/recapitulate the story, with the teacher emphasizing pertinent details. All together they will generate a narrative which students will write into their notebooks.
